Marathon Fund takes advantage of Grassroots Challenge |
Sport and play-based community groups now stand to benefit even more from the Bath Half Marathon Fund - fundholders Running High Events have used the Grassroots Challenge to start an endowment fund worth £35,000.
For groups such as One Eighty, one of 14 groups to receive a grant last year, this is good news. The project works with young people in Bath to offer a skate facility, and runs a detached youth work programme for disaffected teens. “Our £800 grant bought 10 professional quality skateboards. These have enabled new young people to try skateboarding, increased their confidence and encouraged them to be healthy by getting involved in sport,” said Jo Dolby, the project’s skate outreach worker. “So thank you.”
The Grassroots Endowment Challenge matches every £2 given with a further £1 from the treasury. Using the challenge offer Running High’s £35,000 grassroots fund cost the company only £23,000. “Supporting local sport and exercise initiatives funded out of the Bath Half Marathon, is a vital part of Running High’s work,” says Andrew Taylor of Running High Events. “The Challenge allowed our recent contribution to go 50% further in helping local communities.”
Sport and play-based community groups can apply now to the Bath Half Marathon Fund for grants of up to £2000. Click here for details.
