Quartet Community Foundation
  ISSUE NO. 35  -  0 2011

Welcome to our Autumn E-newsletter
As I am sure you have already noticed, this month marks the launch of a new look for Quartet Community Foundation. While our name remains the same, we are introducing a new logo and style to emphasise the community focus of our work and set the foundations for our 25th anniversary year.

We undertook a process which incorporated views outside our organisation and the consensus was that the logo selected from a choice of images meant people coming together in a community and therefore was most suitable. As you would expect, we have achieved the rebranding and updated the website for a minimal level of investment.

Join us on 26th November for a Service of Thanksgiving on the day that the documents that founded our Community Foundation were signed. Invitations will be sent out shortly and we hope that those who have helped us to achieve what we have over the past 25 years will come together to celebrate.

I do hope to see you then.

TOP STORY
Young People in Transition
The Youth in Transition project is helping pupils in South and East Bristol make a successful move to secondary school. Change is challenging for most people, but for children with low confidence and self esteem or difficulties at home, the move from primary school to secondary school can be catastrophic – resulting in poor attendance, poor behaviour, under-achievement and exclusion, which then affects the rest of their lives.

Working closely with primary schools, we are supporting 61 young people from 16 primary schools to help them grow in confidence, make new friends, learn about positive behaviour and become familiar with their new secondary school setting.

Pilots are running at the Bridge Learning Campus and Merchants Academy in South Bristol and Metropolitan in East Bristol. The programme is being delivered by the Kingswood Foundation, Empire Amateur Boxing Club and the Bridge Foundation, all of whom have an excellent track record of working with young people. Pupils attended sessions before the summer holidays and are just about to start the sessions again for the first term of secondary school.

We are grateful to the Society of Merchant Venturers and a number of other donors for their financial support in getting the programme started. We are also grateful to the Education Department of Bristol University who are supporting this work by undertaking the evaluation.

If you would like any more information please contact the project manager on mel.lavin@quartetcf.org.uk or 0117 9897711 (Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
